No More Twitter Updates

Hope everything is going well for you.  Except for the Twitter Updates, I haven’t updated in quite a while.  The Twitter Updates just aren’t that useful out of context of the conversation they are appearing in so I turned them off.  If they’re annoying me, I can’t imagine you being interested in them.  So, look for a few more posts but no more from Twitter.  If you do want the Twitter Updates, go to my account at Twitter, set up one of your own and follow me there.

Twitter Updates for 2008-04-01

  • blizzard april fools is the best so far, new bard class with epic solo and mosh pit abilities! http://tinyurl.com/3dhwdh #
  • also from blizzard, new game, molten core, with concept art and trailer…for the ATARI 64. hilarious! http://tinyurl.com/2gzrdj #
  • @scottcreynolds ouch on the accounts. I love april fools. all the net jokes suck except blizzard’s though. i love the new tauran marines #
  • on second thought, not as big of a fan of april fools on news sites…infoworld has a whole series of dumb articles on the home page. #
  • @bradwilson @scottcreynolds I love the concept art comparison at the bottom. also the trailer ("HAS SOUND", beep, beep, boop) #
  • @bakasan extra points for spinal tap references. :) #
  • @kevindente lol it’s the same here. i dropped off 3 the other day and there were at least 6 other netflix envelopes already there #
  • via @bradwilson another good one! muppet rickrolled http://yougotrickrolled.com/ #
  • @nkohari i’m not sure that flogging molly and caffeine is a bad way to go out. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-28

  • @chimpadink your inability to finish neuromancer is sad but okay. I can’t read anything by Chuck Pahlunik so that makes us even :) #
  • @kevindente I close with the X too. I also close tabs one at a time rather than use "close all but this tab". It drives people nuts. #
  • @kevindente @jongalloway I’ll take insurance #
  • knitting is now hard-core. who knew? http://tinyurl.com/2por4d #
  • @joelmartinez that’s cool. it looks like MMO Civilization #
  • @shanselman I’d like to try one. misspelled the first tweet #
  • @jongalloway @kevindente that’s totally unreasonable. Those of us without children would be stuck in the back of the line! :) #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-27

  • in less than an hour working on my newest project, I’ve managed to break Expression’s SL2 designer support. sigh… :( #
  • I’ve been in sprint planning for a few days now. Finally back to work and starting off with some old rap to get the wheels turning. #
  • @scottcreynolds my backup plan is to move to Key West and drive a cab. #
  • @codinghorror I competed in my college’s robocup tournament. writing a pro-active goalie is WAY harder than any of the other players #
  • @chimpadink I’m reading The Born Queen by Greg Keyes right now but there are 3 before it. Recommended fantasy though. #
  • @codinghorror I realize this makes me a freak but I have never used the middle mouse button to close tabs. Never. #

  • @lfoust i think auto-update is in the cards. I think the main hurdle is getting a permanent domain set up. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-21

  • MVC went OSS today. awesome! http://tinyurl.com/2q9wll #
  • lego stop-motion portal. pretty funny. http://tinyurl.com/38csk8 #
  • @abdiel ouch. I didn’t notice that condition. so you just can’t distribute the changed source, right? #
  • correction, I reread the MVC release. it’s worthless except for debugging purposes. you can’t even distribute your changes in binary #
  • @abdiel you’re right, unfortunately, in consulting, we only ship code to and for others, so the whole shebang is off limits to us. #
  • @lazycoder interviewing? good luck. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-20

  • trying (and failing) to find a better avatar. I’ve been told repeatedly that mine looks either mean or depressed, of which I am neither. #
  • @aanttila I think the print screen key works if you install the boot camp drivers. It maps to something like F14 #
  • @aanttila you can reverse the functionality so that the function keys are normal and you have to option-f14 to print screen #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-19

  • @a7an from what I can tell, it appears the UriSource property of BitmapImage is completely broken by IE8. #
  • After an hour of debugging witty, I’m reduced to uninstalling IE8 due to an unacceptable WPF bug. No web images work. Shoddy work MS… #
  • @jongalloway just saw your comment and I agree this is another reason that IE should be more seperate from the OS. #
  • @scottreynolds yes, but i don’t think we can lay the blame on the IE8 team. the breaking change appears to be in winienet.dll #
  • @scottreynolds I think that’s an IE file, meaning that the WPF team has a dependency on some IE functionality that broke in the IE8 beta #
  • @codinghorror that’s not true. MS just open-sourced singularity, a lot of MS frameworks are open-source, SL 2 controls are OSS #
  • @jongalloway @codinghorror @aanttila i gotcha. you’re right. I can’t think of anything OSS that ships with the OS. #
  • @shanselman good post on web frameworks. You should include some .Net DLR frameworks next time. I’d like to see some IronPython #
  • @jongalloway that’s a cool link. I’ve never seen FileHelpers before. #
  • @shanselman awesome. I’m dying to see some IronPython/MVC goodness start showing up. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-03-17

  • I don’t agree with Joel. That puts me in the idealist camp. normally I’m with the pragmatists. trying to reason it out in my head. #
  • @kevindente I ran it for a while. I agree that everything is broken. However, I also feel like that’s acceptable for the moment. #
  • @aanttila @kevindente @jongalloway I just posted a little more clearly about what I mean with IE8 here http://tinyurl.com/2eppyc #
  • my point is that I know customers don’t care about standards, however, if we don’t try, web dev will get more painful and unmaintainable #
  • @kevindente this link should work http://tinyurl.com/2xg3wq #
  • @kevindente but we all know that the default becomes the standard. IE8 standards mode not being the default would just allow more stalling #
  • @kevindente i think devs will move to standards as well given the chance. just don’t let quirks mode stay and allow them to hide forever #
  • Am I crazy or did I read somewhere that you would be able to inject the IE7 compat tag from IIS, so that you can update a site at a time? #
  • @kevindente @aanttila and I were discussing it and my goal with this is not to eliminate checking your app in 4 browsers #
  • @jaltiere go with Rock Band. The only downside was the difficulty and the constant DLC is taking care of that. #
  • @jaltiere we had an issue with that at the beginning so we made it a plus. the singer gets to pick the song. now everybody loves singing #
  • @a7an the second i see something like that, I imagine it coming after me with a mounted laser. I for one do NOT welcome our robot overlords #
  • @jongalloway worst case scenario, how much effort does it take to add a single meta line per html page? most apps are not hundreds of pages #
  • @lazycoder GOPHER and Lynx. killer combo. THE FUTURE! #
  • @jongalloway You’re probably right but you’re not recoding apps or even recompiling apps. It’s a single line in an HTML page. #
  • @jongalloway and that’s if we can’t set it at the IIS level for an entire app, which I swear I read that we could. #
  • @aanttila I don’t know. I can’t find any sources :( #
  • @a7an it doesn’t have to be a flame war. like we’ve all said, there is a huge gray area. the trick is to stay civil and move forward #
  • @jongalloway as long as the default for new dev is IE8, I’m okay with corps defaulting to IE7 mode. migration takes time. #
  • @kevindente that’s the difference. I want quirks to be a conscious decision and not the default. #
  • @kevindente yeah, I’ll admit that "Use IE7 Mode" button is probably gonna be crucial. It needs to be per tab and without a browser restart. #
