To Live and Die In Tahoe

Doug and Casey came out to visit a little while back. We spent the weekend in Tahoe with Rob and my roomate. It was a pretty stormy weekend with tons of wind and snow.

I will tell you that I got lost on the slope at Homewood resort for a bit and didn’t know if I was going to make it. I was up to my waist in snow and kept sliding farther back. The wind rose and I could hear the wolves coming for me. I knew it was only a matter of time. I considered my options and decided that if necessary I would go with the Empire Strikes Back option, namely killing a wolf with my ski pole and crawling inside of it to survive the storm. At the last second, I was saved. Of course, by saved, I mean that I walked out of the deep snow and headed for the bar. I was later informed that people were staring at me and laughing while I toiled in “fresh powder” about 10 feet from the juice bar, screaming about wolves. Whatever. I didn’t get my “Survive in an Icy Wilderness” merit badge growing up in Georgia.

Anyway, the storm Saturday was pretty intense and dropped about 2-3 feet of snow. We almost got snowed in but it was a great Sunday morning.  Here are a few pics.

Here’s a great view of Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Sky

Some cool icicles on a house. I’m pretty sure one of these would kill you if it fell on you.

Icicles

Another great view of the lake from someone’s balcony (which you’ll notice is packed feet deep with snow).

Balcony

This one was taken Sunday after it snowed all night. I have on approximately twenty layers of clothing. It does no good. I call this one “It is Freaking Cold”.

It Is Freaking Cold

After it snowed, here was the road. Those tracks are from 4X4 trucks being stuck in the road. We had to wait most of the morning to be able to get our rented 4X4 Suburban out.

The Street Disappeared

Here’s the view of the road on the way out. It took us quite a while to get home in stop and go traffic after the storm came back in.

The Road Home

So anyway, we made it home safe. I can safely state that I have seen enough snow to pretty much hold me over until next year.

Just thought I’d pass along an ad that showed up in my neighborhood the other day. It’s not something I’d seen before. I love going to to the Asian market down the street. All the fish and stuff are live and in tanks. I can pick up Pocky and generally life is good.

  • @adkinn also biased but I’ll through my hat in with slide.show. I just really like the interface. #
